Somali Capital Invaded By Islamist Insurgents
February 10, 2010
According to the BBC, residents have begun fleeing the area in fear of a violent clash between the group and local authorities.
Attacks across the city have become a daily occurrence, with sixteen people already reported dead.
African Union “peacekeepers” were launched into the area, where they fired into areas known for heavy insurgent activity, killing at least ten civilians in the process.
“The government has vowed to retake the city, rebels are going to stick to their bastions and the civilians are going to be the only victims, as always bearing the brunt of the war,” a father of two fleeing the city, Mohamed Isa Abdullahi, said.
