Assassination Squad Who Executed Hamas Chief in Dubai Caught on Tape (Video)
February 17, 2010
(ChattahBox) – With International arrest warrants issued, Dubai’s police chief said on Monday that a team of trained killers with European passports carried out the mysterious assassination of a senior Hamas official, military Commander Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, last month in a Dubai hotel. Al-Mabhough was apparently electrocuted and suffocated in his room at Dubai’s luxury Al Bustan Rotana hotel on January 19. Police in Dubai believe the murder bears the hallmarks of a meticulously-planned operation by the Israeli intelligence service Mossad, although officials in Dubai have remained open to other possibilities, suggesting only that it was carried out by a “foreign power.” In addition to releasing the names and photographs of the suspects, the chief, Lt. Gen. Dahi Khalfan al-Tamim, told reporters that security camera video obtained by his investigators showed the team at work in Dubai in the hours leading up to the assassination in a luxury hotel last month.
On Tuesday, a newspaper Web site in Dubai Gulf News published the video released by the authorities, which appears to show the suspects following the Hamas official, Mahmoud al-Mabhouh. Decked out in tennis clothing, while carrying rackets and balls through the lobby of Dubai’s al-Bustan Rotana hotel on Jan 19, the suspects couldn’t have looked less threatening. The alleged hit team, traveling on forged British, Irish, German and French passports, spent no more than 19 hours in the Gulf state, killing Al-Mabhouh just five hours after he had flown in from Syria, where he lived for 20 years. Allegedly, Al-Mabhouh was a founding member of the Izzedine al-Qassam Brigades, and confessed in a video recently he was behind the kidnapping and death of two Israeli soldiers in 1989. Al-Mabhouh was allegedly in Dubai to facilitate a shipment of weapons into Gaza. The video, embedded below, was edited by the Dubai police and includes titles that explain their interpretation of the movements of the now 17 suspects (up from 11) before, during and after the assassination, where they are seen changing into disguises; and spending a lot of time on the second floor of the hotel where the murder took place.
