Second Taliban Leader Captured In Pakistan

February 17, 2010

Pakistan (ChattahBox) – U.S. intelligence has confirmed that a second Taliban leader has been arrested, just days after snatching the Taliban’s number two leader, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.

The second leader arrested has been confirmed as Mullah Abdul Salam, one of the most wanted men by both US and NATO forces.

Known for his effective leadership in the northern region of Afghanistan, it is a huge catch and blow to the terrorist organization.

Pakistan forces are believed to have picked him up as he was meeting traveling to meet Mullah Baradar, but sources have not confirmed the connection between the arrests.

“Thanks to solid intelligence work and some courageous partners in Pakistan, this hasn’t been a good time for the leadership of the Afghan Taliban,” an anonymous official with counter-terrorism told Newsweek.

“While these kinds of operations aren’t the whole answer, you can’t succeed against an enemy like this until you prove he can’t win on the battlefield.┬áTaking out [the] top guys is part of that.”
