Sharp Increase In Birth Defects In Iraq Blamed On Weapons

March 5, 2010

Iraq (ChattahBox) – A doctor in the Iraqi city of Fallujah has come forward to speak about the sharp increase in birth defects since a military offensive using sophisticated weaponry in 2004.

According to a statistic by Dr. Malik Hamdan, the amount of birth defects in the city of Fallujah has gone from one every few months to a daily occurrence.

Heart defects are now at 95 for every 1000 infants, or 13 times that of Europe.

“I’ve seen footage of babies born with an eye in the middle of the forehead, the nose on the forehead,” she said in an interview.

The U.S. military has released a statement saying that they have no studies confirmed that show their weapons being the cause, but that they “take matters of public health very seriously,” and that the matter will be investigated.
