Radical Muslim Cleric, First U.S. Citizen Added to C.I.A. Kill List
April 7, 2010
(ChattahBox)—-Anwar al-Aulaqi, a radical Muslim cleric hiding out in Yemen, now holds the distinction of becoming the first U.S. citizen to make it on the C.I.A.’s terrorist hit list. Aulaqi, tied to the Christmas bombing attempt of a plane bound for Detroit, is now subject to targeted military strikes and any other sanctioned lethal operations carried out by the C.I.A. Because Aulaqi is an American, special approval was obtained from the White House to add the al-Qaeda operative to the kill list.
“He’s in everybody’s sights,” declared an unnamed U.S. official.
And another U.S official told the Washington Post that holding American citizenship does not shield people from being held accountable for terrorists acts. “…U.S. citizenship hardly gives you blanket protection overseas to plot the murder of your fellow citizens,” said the official.
“He’s working actively to kill Americans, so it’s both lawful and sensible to try to stop him, added the official.”
Aulaqi is also linked to Maj. Nidal M. Hasan, who is accused of shooting 12 soldiers and one civilian on a rampage at Ft. Hood. Before the deadly shooting, Hasan communicated by email with Aulaqi.
