Italian Church Admits To 100 Abuse Reports On Priests In Last Decade

May 26, 2010

Italy (ChattahBox) – After months of intense pressure, Italy’s Roman Catholic Church has revealed the abuse statistics it is has long since tried to hide, admitting that there have been just over one hundred reported cases of pedophilia among priests.

Despite this revelation, the Church is still refusing to provide the details on what was done about these priests. They will not, for example, tell how many (if any) were defrocked for their crimes, or turned over to the police for prosecution.

This has led to speculation by many outside of the Church that they may have covered the majority of incidents up, rather than protecting the children who had been molested.

Along this same line of reasoning, and appearing to give it some credence, evidence has been coming to light all over the world of cover-ups that allowed members of the clergy to get away with – and sometimes continue – sexual abuse of children of various ages under their charge.
