June 18, 2010
Kyrgyzstan (ChattahBox) – The interim president acting in Kyrgyzstan said in an official visit to Osh that the death toll of the ongoing conflict is likely to be as much as 10 times that they thought.
Roza Otunbayeva told the public that up to 2,000 were now believed to have died in the clash between oppositional mobs, and Uzbek citizens.
The deaths and displacement of what is now believed to up to 1 million Uzbeks is being called a major international disaster, with trucks and helicopters bringing aid to the refugee camps.
Further conflicts have arisen in the process of extraditing Maxim Bakiyev from British soil, where the ousted president’s son ran when he learned he would be questioned on the whereabouts of his father, as well as his place in inciting the mobs.
