Suicide Car Bombers, Kill 27, Wound 55 in Baghdad Blast
June 20, 2010
(ChattahBox)—-Terror and mayhem reigned in the downtown streets of Baghdad, after twin suicide car bombers caused a blast in front of the busy Trade Bank of Iraq building. The deadly explosion killed at least 27 and wounded 55.
The twin suicide bombers targeted the trade building, mid-morning, as dozens of residents waited outside for national identification cards, according to the AP report:
“The blast, which tore the glass facade off the three-story Trade Bank of Iraq building, leaving chairs and desks exposed, occurred shortly after 11 a.m. as the area was packed with people at the start of the local work week.”
Islamic insurgents and al-Qaeda forces have increased attacks in Iraq, at a time when the central government is unable to decide on a new prime minister after the close elections in March:
“Frustration has been high over the inability of Iraq’s politicians to come together to choose a prime minister and form a government even though the new parliament was seated last week. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has been acting in a caretaker role as he battles to keep his job after a rival Sunni-backed political bloc won a narrow victory in the vote.”
