June 22, 2010

Congo (ChattahBox) – A train has derailed in the southern region of Congo, leaving 60 dead in Brazzaville.

According to authorities, the train was taking a sharp corner between the Bilinga and Tchitondi villages, in a scarcely populated area.

It derailed on the curve, and crashed into a ravine.

The Ministry of Transport has said they are not completely sure of the final death and injury count, but that 60 bodies have been recovered so far.

A report by the BBC said that the railway has been poorly maintained since it’s creation in the late 1920’s.
