Joran Van Der Sloot Confession Is In, Judge Says
June 26, 2010
The confession was in the murder of a 21-year-old Peruvian student, who is said he beat, then suffocated in a hotel room after she saw an email related to another violent crime on his laptop.
This is the second murder that Van der Sloot is suspected of committing, the first being of 18-year-old Natalee Holloway, who was never found, and he was never formally charged with killing.
The attack of Stephany Flores happened on the anniversary of the disappearance of Holloway. He met both women in casinos.
Originally, Van der Sloot lied to authorities, claiming that burglars had broken in and murdered the woman, after they surprised them mid-robbery.
But he later admitted that he had killed her, after a struggle over an email related to Holloway, though the details of that email have not been released.
Superior Court Judge Wilder Casique has rejected an appeal to throw out the confession, after the suspect claimed he had been ‘tricked’ into giving a detailed and accurate account of the murder.
