Oil Tanker Explosion Leaves Hundreds Dead in DR Congo
July 3, 2010
DR Congo (ChattahBox) – At least 230 are reportedly dead, and nearly 200 injured, after an oil tanker exploded in the Sange during an attempt to pass a bus, CNN reports.
The truck moved to slip past a bus that was traveling down a heavily populated road near the eastern border, but flipped over and skidded, causing a leak in the hull.
Residents attempted to collect some of the leaking oil, but one was smoking a cigarette when he came near, causing the truck to explode.
The driver escaped the explosion, but many sitting nearby, watching a World Cup match in a bar off the side of the accident, did not.
