Police Investigate Death Threats Against Witnesses In Belgium Abuse Cases
July 4, 2010
Belgium (ChattahBox) – Police that raided the offices, homes, and even one tomb in an investigation of child sex abuse in the Catholic church in Belgium are now looking into reports that witnesses and magistrates related to the case were threatened.
According to the BBC, several people who alerted or helped the police in the cases have been receiving death threats from unreleased sources.
The cases themselves go back generations, and are part of a wider look at widespread pedophilia and child rape within the Catholic Church. A part of that investigation is the web of secrecy, in which many priests were protected, and allowed to abuse young children for years.
One case saw an Australian pedophile teacher in a Catholic school, who held the title of priest, raping children as young as five for years under the direct knowledge of staff.
This recent report of death threats is disturbing, but far from surprising, given the trend of protecting monsters like that above within the Church.
Just another strike against Vatican credibility.
