South Africa (ChattahBox) – Two grandchildren of Nelson Mandela were held up at gunpoint during an attempted robbery, after leaving his birthday celebration, Reuters reports.

The two unnamed relatives were entering the gates of the Mandela family home in Johannesburg, when two assailants rushed forward with guns drawn.

Everyone in the group, including the driver, were ordered to lay on the ground as the two would-be robbers set about going through their belongings.

Somewhere in the mix, one of the suspects began to fire his gun, and the driver drew his own firearm and returned bullets.

The two assailants ran, managing to escape, but without any loot.

There were no injuries reported.
