Spain (ChattahBox) – In a pretty shocking human right violation, a Spanish mayor has closed down his city’s mosque and told attendants to “pray at home”, citing the the popularity of the spot as his reason.

Angel Ros, the Catalonia mayor of the region of Lleida, said that it was an issue of how many people were attending the mosque, which was held in a garage once used for holding large trucks.

The capacity is for just under 250 people, and thousands would attend the area’s only Muslim place of worship. However, instead of suggesting another venue or alternative to the space problem, he shut it down all together.

“The municipality has no obligation to provide places of worship. Those that wish can pray at home, as I do,” he was quoted by the Telegraph.

In addition to the local banning of the burka or niqab, traditional coverings for women, the closing of the only mosque has caused an uproar, with many accusing the Socialist mayor of impeding their right to worship.
