DR Congo (ChattahBox) – Just a few weeks after an oil tanker explosion killed hundreds of people after a man lit a cigarette near a gas leak from an accident, the BBC is reporting that 80 people are confirmed dead and 60 are still missing in a boat sinking.

The boat was traveling on the Kasai, holding both people and cargo that was making its’ way down to the city of Kinshasa, having left from Mushie.

Authorities believe that the boat was overloaded, a common problem in a region that has a severe problem with transportation, with the last roads having been built decades ago, and others damaged in violent conflicts.

Since the water was low, the vessel hit a mudbank and capsized, sending the people aboard into the river.

Officials believe all may have died, but are searching for survivors.
