Iran Unveils Unmanned Drone for Strikes Against ‘an Ignorant Person’
August 22, 2010
(ChattahBox)—In the wake of international concern over Iran’s completion of a nuclear power plant, aided by Russia, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attended the unveiling of a new long-range unmanned drone over the weekend. Although it’s a prototype, the existence of the missile is sure to add to the already growing tensions between Israel and Iran, as well as the United States. The drone has been dubbed the Karrar, and was showcased during a defense industries exhibition, that kicks off something called “Government Week,” according to the Islamic Republic News Agency. Ahmadinejad said the drone would only be used for self defense, but in his typical vitriolic style, he promoted pre-emptive strikes against the threat of “an ignorant person.”
The English version of the official Islamic Republic News Agency offered few details about the new unmanned drone, except to say it was inaugurated on Sunday and was produced within Iran.
“Iran’s first long-range home-built un-manned bomber Karrar (Striker) was inaugurated Sunday during a ceremony attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The ceremony was held on the occasion of the national day of Defense Industry (August 22) which is held on the eve of the Government Week.”
Ahmadinejad’s speech describing Iran’s enemies deserving of a pre-emptive strike to thwart a perceived threat or act of aggression, is quite broad, according to Reuters‘ report.
“If there is an ignorant person or an egoist or a tyrant who just wanted to make an aggression then our Defense Ministry should reach a point where it could cut off the hand of the aggressor before it decided to make an aggression,” he said.
“We should reach a point when Iran would serve as a Defense umbrella for all freedom loving nations in the face of world aggressors. We don’t want to attack anywhere, Iran will never decide to attack anywhere, but our revolution cannot sit idle in the face of tyranny, we can’t remain indifferent.”
The Islamic Republic News Agency, reported that a new space tests laboratory was also unveiled at the Defense Industry ceremony.
