Is a Peace Agreement Between Israel and the Palestinians On The Way?
September 7, 2010
Israel (ChattahBox World News) – Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has said that he believes that within the next year a peaceful agreement with the Palestinians could be established, following tense but amicable talks last week.
Netanyahu said that if there are no delays, and they continue to speak openly and directly as they have been, a solution between the two people can occur within a year, Reuters reports.
But a big point of the deal will involve the freezing of all settlement construction, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas told Netanyahu that if they do not stop then all negotiations will end without any chance of renewal until they are stopped.
This will be a difficult decision for Israel, as conservative cabinet members continue to press for the continued creation of the controversial settlements in the West Bank.
Though even with tension high, and an uncertain future ahead, the talks have been a large success between two nations who have been refusing to hold talks for the last several years, and a disastrous occupation by Israel in Gaza.
