Soldiers Kill 22 Suspected Cartel Gunmen In Mexico
September 17, 2010
Mexico (ChattahBox World News) – Soldiers killed 22 gunmen in a shootout on a ranch, media in the country is reporting, citing anonymous sources within the military.
The shootout came after soldiers began investigating suspicious activity on a ranch in the state of Tamaulipas. When they arrived the suspected drug runners began to shoot at them. All are believed to have been killed, and there were no reports of injury from the soldiers.
This was the second major gun battle in Mexico this week, after 19 suspected members of an unnamed cartel were killed in Nuevo Leon. Both seem to show the latest wave of action against drug activity in the region, which officials say have claimed the lives for more than 28,000 people since 2006, and created a dangerous culture of instability and corruption in the country.
Officials within the military have refused to comment on either shootout.
