Iranian President Ahmadinejad: ‘US Government Orchestrated’ 9/11
September 23, 2010
(ChattahBox World News)—In typical fashion, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad shocked the delegations before the United Nations General Assembly, with offensive and anti-Semitic rhetoric. The hardline leader, known for his vitriolic rhetoric accused the United States of engineering the September 11 terrorist attacks, to “save the Zionist regime.” Soon after making his 9/11 accusations, the United States delegation and several European delegations walked out.
Ahmadinejad began his remarks by referencing the 9/11 “truther” conspiracy, which advances the theory that U.S. government officials were behind the terrorist attacks.
“Another theory, he said, was “that some segments within the U.S. government orchestrated the attack to reverse the declining American economy, and its grips on the Middle East, in order to save the Zionist regime” — his way of characterizing Israel.”
“The majority of the American people as well as most nations and politicians around the world agree with this view,” Ahmadinejad told the 192-nation assembly.
The United States issued a response blasting Ahmadinejad for his remarks.
“Rather than representing the aspirations and goodwill of the Iranian people, Mr. Ahmadinejad has yet again chosen to spout vile conspiracy theories and anti-Semitic slurs that are as abhorrent and delusional as they are predictable,” read a statement from the U.S. delegation.
During President Obama’s speech delivered before Ahmadinejad’s remarks, Obama spoke of the urgency for Iran to prove the peaceful intentions of its nuclear program.
Obama, said the “door remains open to diplomacy,”adding “But the Iranian government must demonstrate a clear and credible commitment, and confirm to the world the peaceful intent of its nuclear program.”
