Saddam Hussein’s Right-Hand Man,Tariq Aziz, Sentenced to the Gallows

October 26, 2010

(ChattahBox World News)– In a gruesome end to the trial of Tariq Aziz, the former foreign minister to the late Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi regime, the Iraqi High Tribunal sentenced Aziz to a sentence of death by hanging. Although Aziz is already serving lengthy prison sentences for torture and other crimes, today’s sentence was handed down as punishment for the murders of Shiite Muslims and members of other religious groups, during Saddam Hussein’s reign of terror on Iraqi citizens.

Aziz was a familiar and very public face during the years of Saddam’s brutal regime. And after the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, he was suddenly appearing on our televisions as the official representative of Saddam’s policies.

As part of the United States’ Iraqi withdrawal plan, Aziz along with a number of other high-profile prisoners were transferred to Iraqi authorities.

Aziz has 30-days to appeal his death sentence. If the Appeals Court upholds his trip to the gallows, Aziz would be put to death within the month.
