Ahmadinejad Donates 1977 Peugeot for ‘Deprived’ People
November 22, 2010
(ChattahBox World News)—-President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is doing his part to provide for “deprived” citizens in his struggling Islamic regime, by throwing a government yard sale of sorts. Ahmadinejad is auctioning off his beloved 1977 Peugeot 504 automobile to raise money for housing units for the poor.
With international sanctions having a negative economic impact in Iranian society. And escalating inflation causing the prices of food and basic consumer goods to soar, perhaps Ahmadinejad is putting on a show of austerity and belt tightening.
The Islamic Republic News Agency is reporting on Ahmadinejad’s parting with his trusty 33-year-old Peugeot.
“Minister of Welfare and Social Affairs Sadeq Mahsouli told IRNA that the President made the decision during a local gathering with the ministry’s officials.”
“President Ahamdinejad’s car ‘will soon go to a especial (sic) international auction for housing projects for deprived people, Mahsouli said.”
Assuming the ancient Peugeot still runs, how much can it realistically fetch? It’s not like it’s the James Bond car.
Is a government auction what passes for a safety net in Iran?
