Bomb Blasts Kill One Iranian Nuclear Scientist, Wounds Another
November 29, 2010
Iran (ChattahBox World News)—Two prominent Iranian nuclear specialists were the victims of bomb attacks yesterday, when assailants on motorcycles attached bombs to the car windows of the scientists as they drove to work, the UK Guardian reports. In Tehran, Majid Shahiari died when his car exploded, and his wife, who was riding with him, was injured.
Also attacked was Fereidoun Abbasi, professor at Shahid Beshshti University, where Shahiari also worked. Abbasi and his wife, who was in the car with him, were seriously injured but were treated at a hospital. A similar attack killed a physics professor last January.
It was unclear who was responsible for the attacks, although State TV blamed Israel, while Iran previously noted that it “suspects the attacks were part of a covert attempt by the west to undermine the country’s nuclear program,” the Guardian reported. Iran has insisted that it plans to use its atomic knowledge to create power supplies rather than to build weapons.
