Tiny French Village Braces for Visitors Seeking Shelter from 2012 ‘Armageddon’
December 22, 2010
France (ChattahBox World News)—A growing group of alien enthusiasts believe that the world will end in Dec. 2012, and are planning to flock to Bugarach, France—which they believe is the only safe place to survive the Armageddon, the UK Telegraph reports. The small farming village has a population of just 189, making it a peaceful area not ready for large throngs of tourists.
Bugarach’s mayor Jean-Pierre Delord has asked the army to be prepared if it looks like the crowd is going to be too large next December, noting that the small town “will not be able to cope” if 10,000 people arrive, the Telegraph notes. The town has been an attraction for alien enthusiasts for several years following various reports of aliens near the town’s highest mountain, with some hearing a UFO humming under the mountain.
The mountain is rumored to have been Steven Spielberg’s inspiration for Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and interest has steadily grown since then but spiked recently, the Telegraph reports. Online UFO-watcher websites have urged people to make their way to Bugarach once Armageddon nears.
