Google Promises To Pay Domestic Partner Benefits For Gay Employees

July 2, 2010

California (ChattahBox) – In a wonderful act of goodwill towards their employees, Google has offered a pay raise to all gay employees who currently have a partner on their benefits.

According to NBC, Google is raising the pay to cover a tax, which if placed federally on all people who have same-sex partners on their benefits. Straight couples are not forced to pay this tax.

They hope this increase in pay will cover all taxes on those employees.

Straight couples who are not married but living together will not be offered the tax increase, because marriage is an option; whereas gay workers in civil unions are unable to gain the tax break on benefits while full marriage is illegal.

All pay will be retroactive through 2010, compensating on taxes already paid this year.
