Thief Caught in Action, Image Plastered on Billboards All Over the City

November 25, 2008

Wellington, New Zealand (ChattahBox) — A thief was photographed by an onlooker while he was stealing transformers used for lighting on billboards in New Zealand. The billboard company has plastered his image on four billboards in New Zealand’s largest city.

The unidentified thief got clicked by a photographer who knew that the billboard and its equipments belonged to Mark Venter, which New Zealand’s oldest billboard companies OTW Advertising. The photographer offered the pictures to Venter and the company posted four billboards across the city stating “Who is this thief? Reward $500.”

“The photo of “the ratbag” was “too good an opportunity to let go,” “We’ve all had stuff stolen … but usually they don’t leave this calling card,” Venter told The Associated Press. The company has received more than 100 calls since the photograph was posted about a week back. However, most of the calls supported the campaign rather than offer any information about the thief.

On the other hand, Police Sergeant Roy Simpson has also received several calls regarding the thief and most of the calls have identified the same man. The Police are now looking out for the man on the billboard.

According to Ventor, the thief had a small piece of luck that it stole the equipment in the day. If he had tried stealing the transformers during the night, when they were having 50,000 volts going through them, he would have been likely killed.
