Firefighters Burn Down Their Own Station For Second Time!

January 14, 2009

A group of volunteer German firefighters have apparently managed to set fire to their own station and let it burn, for the second time. Doh! The firehouse blaze was reportedly started by the firefighters themselves during a training exercise.

But investigators at the station in Syke, northern Germany, say it could have also been caused by faulty wiring.

Because of heavy smoke development the neighbor houses were evacuated.
Some 250 firefighters from neighboring towns were called in to help fight the inferno, according to the Austrian Times.

The flames caused millions of dollars worth of damage, gutting the building and destroying all six of the station’s fire engines.

The station had already been rebuilt after it burnt to the ground in another blaze in 1994.

The fire department was unable to establish a cause at the time.

One local is quoted in the Austrian Times as saying: “A fire service that can’t even keep its own fire station and engines safe doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.”
