Two Men Rescued After 25 Days At Sea Floating in an Icebox?

January 22, 2009

Australia (ChattahBox) – Two Thai men, who’s fishing boat broke apart during a fishing expedition, were found floating on an icebox after what they said was 25 days of a mad scramble at survival.

The two men were rescued by helicopter, and claimed that they had lived by eating small, regurgitated fish dropped by large birds, and by drinking rain water that frequently hits the tropical area during the season.

However, some are skeptical about their story, particularly doctors, who say the men are in amazing condition for their ordeal, especially given the amount of time they claim to have been at sea. With no sunburn, chapped lips, or severe dehydration that would be expected after being lost in the ocean for so long, it is making many skeptical that their tale is genuine.

Not only that, but according to Dr Paul Luckin, survival expert with the Navy Reserve, there would be no way for them to survive without regular fresh water, something that rain water would not provide at sea.

“But for them to be able to capture rainwater in that esky (icebox) would mean the bottom of that esky would have to be fairly clean — in other words free of saltwater and dead fish. It would be unlikely that they would travel in that esky for that time without a certain quantity of saltwater getting in.”

The exact nationality, and how they got into Australian waters, has not been confirmed, although it is believed they floated in from Indonesian waters. The men claim there were 18 others with them when their boat broke apart, but no other survivors are expected to be found.
