Otter Breaks Into The Mammal Exhibit To Spend The Night

February 12, 2009

Florida (ChattahBox) – The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens got a little surprise this week when they opened up their gates, and found an extra otter in the compound.

There had originally been one male left outside in the otter exhibit, and two females locked up inside. Another male apparently broke his way into the exhibit, and spent the night, and odd occurrence, according to zoo keepers.

“My guess is that this guy was looking for a mate,” Craig Miller, the mammal curator, said.

“It’s easy enough to assume that. Maybe he smelled the females, saw an otter down there and jumped in.”

He was released back into the wild, and the fences are expected to be tightened to discourage it from happening again.
