Thai Spiderman rescues boy from third-floor window ledge

March 24, 2009

A quick thinking Bangkok fireman rescued an autistic eight-year-old boy who had climbed on to a third-floor window ledge.

The boy was apparently on his first day at the special needs school, and freaked out, according to the BBC report.

Teachers couldn’t convince the boy to come back from his dangerous perch and called the boys mother and firefighters.

As firefighters also tried to unsuccessfully coax him in, his mother mentioned his passion for comic superheroes.

The remark prompted fireman Somchai Yoosabai to rush back to the station, where he kept a Spider-Man costume in his locker.

The sight of Mr Yoosabai dressed as Spider-Man and holding a glass of juice for him, brought a big smile to the boy’s face, and he promptly threw himself into the arms of his “superhero”, police said.

Mr Yoosabai normally uses the costume and one of Japanese television character Ultraman, to liven up fire drill rehearsals at schools.
