Man Bites Python After Shocking Attack

April 15, 2009

Africa (ChattahBox) – A Kenyan man has survived a harrowing battle, after a python tried to drag him into a tree.

Ben Nyaumbe, a local farmer, was attacked by the 13-foot snake and fought him for several hours, even after being dragged by the enormous reptile into a tree. Nyaumbe was able to cover the snake’s head with his shirt, and reach his cell phone, where he called police for help.

When they arrived with a number of local villagers to contain the creature, they found that Nyaumbe had also bitten the python on the tail, causing his lip to split open where it came in contact with the sharp tip.

When asked why he bit the python, the man explained: “I stepped on a spongy thing on the ground and suddenly my leg was entangled with the body of a huge python. I had to bite it.”

The police and villagers managed to tie the snake up and took it to a nearby sanctuary, but it later escaped, causing alarm in the area.

“It’s very mysterious, this ability to lift the man onto the tree. I’ve never heard of this before,” Peter Katam, the superintendent of the Malindi police, said in a statement to the BBC.

“We want to arrest the snake because any one of us could fall a victim.”
