Banana Leaf Coffins Latest In Eco-Friendly Death Wares

July 5, 2009

Colorado (ChattahBox) – Ecoffins USA, a funeral manufacturing company, has begun making environmentally friendly coffins out of banana leaves.

The coffins are one in a long line of coffins made from biodegradable and recycled material, in order to offer a choice to those who spent their lives dedicated to the environment.

These coffins are used in natural burials, most commonly, where the body has not be embalmed. It is thought to be the more eco-conscious way to go.

“We’ve had funeral directors look at them and say, ‘I guess you can go to hell in a handbasket now,” Joanna Passarelli, the director of marketing for Ecoffins USA was quoted by The Associated Press.
