Red Panda Babies Find New Mother In Surrogate Dog

July 17, 2009

China (ChattahBox) – A dog became an adopted mother after taking on the charge of two baby red pandas that were abandoned by their mother in Northern China.

The red panda babies were born in captivity in the Taiyuan Zoo in Shanxi, from a mother that the zoo didn’t know was pregnant. Because of this, they were unprepared when the red panda rejected her cubs.

Luckily, they were able to find a dog who recently gave birth, who has taken to the red panda babies and is feeding them as her own.

“It’s good-natured and has sufficient milk. The baby bears seem to like it, too,” zoo worker Ha Guojiang was quoted in Breitbart.

Sadly, this has led the mother to reject her own puppy, who is now being fed by zookeepers.
