Searching For Answers In India Village of Twins Mystery

August 5, 2009

India (ChattahBox) – The small village of Kodinji has always had a high twin rate, but the number of twin births is rising even further, with five more women in the 15,000 population set to give multiple births. What researchers don’t understand is why.

There are thought to be around 230 sets of twins already living in Kodinji, all that were born in the village. That is four times the usual number for a population of their size.

“It’s an amazing phenomenon to see a medical marvel occurring in such a localized place where the people are not exposed to any kinds of harmful drugs or harmful chemicals. It’s a virgin village,” a local researcher and doctor, M.K. Sribiju, was quoted in Reuters.

“Based on scientific facts, we feel something in the environment is causing this. It could be something in the water.”

But what it is in the water that is causing it is still a total mystery, as is whether or not that is the actual explanation.

Until the reason is discovered the village will continue to see double. Is it any wonder it has been dubbed ‘the twin village’?
