Woman Refused Scissor Loan Because She May ‘Stab Library Staff’

September 26, 2009

UK (ChattahBox) – A small business owner who was attempting to cut up leaflets at a local library was denied the loan of a pair of scissors because the librarian felt she could have stabbed her.

Lorna Watts, a 26-year-old dressmaker, was then told she could not use a paper-cutter, as it was heavy enough to be used as a club.

“It’s absurd – there are plenty of heavy books I could have hit her with if I wanted to,” Watts for the BBC.

“I hardly look very threatening – it’s really sad she could not make a commonsense judgment.”

While this would normally not seem more than just an odd, isolated incident, she ended up visiting three libraries in a region, and each one made the same refusal, adding that it was a policy put in by the local council.

The Camden Council has denied this, and said that they were investigating the odd incident, which they believes is an extreme misinterpretation of some obscure rule.

I sure wish they would have published a photo of that woman or got a comment from any of the libraries. It is absolutely not a coincidence they would not loan her the paper cutter so what’s the real deal?
