Parents Catch Pedophile By Posing As Their 11-Year-Old

December 22, 2009

U.K. (ChattahBox) – In the latest example of people taking their children’s safety online in their own hands, a couple has been praised for catching a pedophile trying to lure their 11-year-old daughter into a romantic and sexual relationship.

The unnamed child was on her Facebook account on a laptop in the living room when her mother walked by and noticed her chatting.

The chat, which turned out to be with 52-year-old sick freak Thomas Gibbs, was saying about how he wanted to “kiss her”, and that he “liked her a lot”.

The mother took control of the computer and began to chat with him, pretending to be her daughter.

Over the course of the week both parents continued speaking to him, as he continued making romantic advances. Eventually, he begged her to meet him, and the parents set a date.

The family and a few friends went to the meeting and watched him arrive, noting his appearance but not confronting him.

Afterward, they set another date to meet for 12 days later. Gibbs was arrested at that meeting.

Gibbs has been sentences to 16-months in jail, and will be forced to sign onto the sex offender’s registry.

Detective Constable John Capps said has said that it is efforts like this from parents that make a huge difference in catching men like Gibbs.

“I would like to pay tribute to the family who have prevented any further offences being committed, as well as the young girl who was brave enough to tell her parents,” he said in a statement.

A surprisingly moderate response, I would have cut his testicles off and sent them to the local police station.
