Stabbing Death Of 100-Year-Old Blind Woman

February 24, 2010

England (ChattahBox) – A 100-year-old woman has been found stabbed to death in her home, and her 61-year-old son has been arrested as a suspect.

Hannah Fitzgibbon, a well known local of Whitechapel, was found with a knife wound in the side of her neck.

She is described as a frail old woman who has not left her home in years. She is said to be blind and mostly deaf.

Her son, Michael Fitzgibbon, was her full time caregiver, cooking, cleaning, shopping and carrying his mother for years as her health degraded.

He suffered a stroke a few years ago.

“He always said how much he loved his mum, but she was very old and it was hard work looking after her,” a family friend was quoted as saying.

“He had had a stroke and was getting on himself in age, I want to know why he wasn’t given more help. He did everything for his mum, cooked her meals, carried her from the bed to the toilet, made her cups of tea when she wanted it. He was under a lot of pressure.”

Social Services is reviewing any case open on the family.
