By Friday, it is expected that the film will be playing in nearly 4,300 theaters.

Paramount, along with many others in the industry, hope that the new Indiana Jones can give the box office just the kick in the pants it needs to pick up steam heading into the summer months.

Expectations stand that the new film could beat out Spider-Man 2’s opening of $151.1 million in May 2007.

The others going up against Indy this weekend are likely to take a nice whip from Mr. Jones, as The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian as well as Iron Man are both expected to be thrown to the wayside to make way for the adventure legend.

Indiana Jones is back in action at theaters, and the box office is loving it.
