The Academy Award winning director Sydney Pollack died of cancer on Monday in Los Angeles. Hollywood (ChattahBox) – The Academy Award winning director Sydney Pollack died of cancer on Monday in Los Angeles.

He won his Academy Awards for both directing and producing the romance Out of Africa. His spokeswoman stated on Monday that the 73-year old has died of cancer.

He was diagnosed with cancer around 10-months ago, and doctors had a hard time figuring out the origin of the disease.

He died at around 5 p.m. local time with family around him.

Pollack also worked on Tootsie, The Way We Were, They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?, and other works.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
