In The Heights Takes Top Honors At Tony Awards

In The Heights took top honors at the annual Tony Awards which were held on Sunday night.  The show honored the best of the 2007-2008 season on Broadway...Boston (ChattahBox) – In The Heights took top honors at the annual Tony Awards which were held on Sunday night. The show honored the best of the 2007-2008 season on Broadway.

The musical was created by a student on the campus of Wesleyan University, Lin-Manuel Miranda.

From there, 8-years later, it has now taken top honors at the Tony Awards, and also won best original score.

The 28-year old Miranda accepted the award for composing the musical in front of a packed crowd at Radio City Music Hall.

He stated “I used to dream about this moment, now I’m in it.”

August: Osage County won best play of the year. Anna D. Shapiro, who directed August, also won best director.

Best actress went to Deanna Dunagan for her work in August, while Rondi Reed won best supporting actress, also in August.

South Pacific ended up winning 7 awards in total, including best revival of a musical.
