The British band Coldplay has managed to rack up the second-best debut of 2008 with their new album, Boston (ChattahBox) – The British band Coldplay has managed to rack up the second-best debut of 2008 with their new album, “Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends.” The album stands at the top of the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart, all alone.

Coldplay managed to rack up sales of 720,000 copies of its album in the first week.

This is the fourth studio album from the band, and has been welcomed by fans in both the UK as well as in the US.

The sales numbers from Nielsen SoundScan show that 720,000 copies were sold in the first week putting it at the top of the music charts. This follows the success of their last album, 2005’s “X&Y.”

They are also at the top spot in the UK for the second week as well.

This shows that their initial marketing push worked well as the band offered fans artwork from the album, as well as a free release of their first single, “Violet Hill” on their web site.

They follow only Lil Wayne’s The Carter III, which sold over 1 million copies in its first week to become the top album debut of the year.
