The four waterfalls were part of a public art dream, realized in full-scale.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg stated that ” New York is a place where big ideas are realized,” and that appeared true as the four waterfalls were named The New York City Waterfalls.

The waterfalls stand on their own and were made by Danish artist Olafur Eliasson.

The project took more than 2-years to complete and cost $15.5 million.

It is expected that the waterfalls will draw great public interest, and will generate over $50 million in economic activity.
