Metropolitan Museum of Art In NY Gets New Director

A new director has been named to head up the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Thomas P. Campbell.........Boston (ChattahBox) – A new director has been named to head up the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Thomas P. Campbell.

Campbell was a curator for the museum’s Department of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts.

He will be the successor to Philippe de Montebello, the current director who is stepping down.

The 46-year old Thomas P. Campbell is a specialist in European tapestries.

He has been working at the Met since 1995, and was voted on as the new director by the board of trustees for the museum.

They have been looking for a new director for 8 months since the 72-year old Philippe de Montebello announced that he wanted to retire.

The former director has been the head of the museum since 1977, and announcement his retirement last January.
