Reprise is an interesting look at two very different yet very similar journeys shared by two childhood friends.  Ironic I believe is the best word to describe the story and film itself.  I found it interesting and wonder if this was intended or not that the similar issues found within the characters novels is the same issues found within the story itself.

Childhood friends Erik and Phillip are inspired individuals seeking to follow in the footsteps of their favorite novelist Sten Egil Dahl.  When both try their hand at the art and only one succeeds we find our characters dealing with the perils of success and failure.  When Phillip’s success lands him in a mental institution due to his obsession with his girlfriend Kari.  The intense relationship shared by these individuals while character defining seemed a bit contrived and over-done.

Overall the film itself while interesting to me was too gray heavy with emotion and overall missed it’s mark.  The characters and actors in the film did well with the material and there were times when I was so swept into the characters archs that I found myself fighting off the emotions the characters were going through.

Film: 6.5 Well done but far too emotional

Audio: 6.0

Video: 6.0

Overall: 6.3
