The small dog, a rat terrier named Jake, was being attacked by a shark that is believed to be around 5 or 6-feet long.

He jumped into the water, and began to pound on the head of the shark, punching it with great fury.

The pounding on the neck of the shark was effective, as the shark let go of the dog, and swam away.

The dog is said to be just fine, even though he did have some puncture wounds from the attack.
