Deception starring Hugh Jackman, Ewan McGregor and  Michelle Williams is an interesting look into the life of Jonathan McQuarry (McGregor), a lonely accountant whose life is turned upside down after meeting Wyatt Bose (Jackman).  Bose introduces McQuarry to a life he’s never known and one he’s not sure he can handle.  It starts innocently enough with a joint and good conversation, but as the obsession builds his life goes the other way.

Hugh Jackman and Ewan McGregor play well off of each other.  Both actors are fun to watch on the screen but the material they have to work with leaves something to be desired.  In terms of script or storytelling there is much left to desire, it seemed almost as though the creators of the film were hanging their hopes of a good film on the stars and the concept.  Unfortunately while being an “erotic thriller” may get you a few viewers it does not do much to enhance the film experience.

The blu-ray version of the film did deliver in terms of visual enhancement.  The visual stylings of the film received a good boost from the blu-ray format but unfortunately the audio had a hard time keeping up.  There was not much for the 5.1 Sound to carry as the film’s audio lacked anything of any real substance.

While the disc itself does contain some Bonus Features, I would hardly call them anything to be excited about.  They did little to further my film experience or give me anything beyond the film itself.  The various points each person had to make on the film might have been more interesting if I had enjoyed the film more, but also left a lot to be desired.  There was not much if anything at all that I could consider extra in these bonus features.

Film: 6.0

Audio: 6.0

Video: 7.0

Bonus Material: 5.0

Overall: 6.0
