DVD Review
Paramount Home Entertainment

That thunderous noise you hear is the latest Japanese anime cartoon being brought to American Saturday mornings and on DVD.  Dinosaur King is a series following in the footsteps of it’s predecessors Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh.  It too pits creatures against one another in battles created by the card game with the same name.  In the game various prehistoric dinosaurs have different attacks, which it can use to inflict upon its opponent and cause damage.  After a certain number of hits the winner is decided.

The television show uses real prehistoric creatures such as the T-Rex, Triceratops and others as the basis for it’s characters.  These dinos follow our heroes Max, Rex and Zoë as the D-Team as they battle with the evil Alpha Gang run by the villain Dr. Z.  The basic premise for each of the episodes is that one of the cards are lost and the D Team must obtain it back before the Alpha Gang can get it and bring back some of the worst dinosaurs to do their bidding.

The DVD set contains all of the episodes from the first season of the show and is a must have for any Dinosaur King fan.  A major difference in this series compared to others of its kind is that it is somewhat fact based and does have some educational value to it.  It also uses CGI to recreate the dinosaurs for the battles, which is good because it does re-create these monsters of the prehistoric in an accurate way can create a somewhat scary image for the little viewers, which after all is the target audience.

Film: 6.0 I personally am not a fan of these series.
