The idea behind the federal mediator is to put him or her in between the two sides to talk with the Hollywood studios to try and settle contract disputes.

According to reports, the SAG board is also set to authorize a strike if the 120,000 union members vote in favor of it.

In order for a strike to be passed, 75% of the voting members need to be in favor of it.

If this happens, the national negotiating committee could calla  strike.

The hope for the SAG is they can settle their issues without a strike.
