Legendary Musician Merl Saunders Dies At The Age 74

Merl Saunders, a musician who did a great deal of work with the Grateful Dead and others, has died at the age of 74...Hollywood (ChattahBox) – Merl Saunders, a musician who did a great deal of work with the Grateful Dead and others, has died at the age of 74.

He was a keyboardist who played with Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis, and other legendary names in music.

He also worked with Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead for many years.

The two made two albums in the 1970s and played together right up until when Garcia died in 1995.

Merl Saunders passed away on Friday in San Francisco.  The cause of death was complications following a stroke.

The family has put up a message on his web site stating that the man “stood for music and love.  We looed him very much and we know that you, his fans, did too.”

The family went on to state that “Sad as we are to lose him, we’re very aware of being comforted by the affection coming from all those touched by that smile and that wonderful music.”
