Bankrupt Childhood Star Willie Aames Holds Garage Sale (Video)

March 27, 2009

(ChattahBox) — Down on his luck (again) former “Eight is Enough” childhood star Willie Aames is raising money any way he can, including a garage sale at his home in suburban Kansas City.

Many showed up Thursday at a garage sale at his Olathe home, where the seventies teen idol made deals with bargain-hunters and signed autographs.

Items on sale included antiques, artwork, a piano, deer head mounts and TV and movie memorabilia.

During his teen poster boy 1980s heyday, Aames picked up a drug and alcohol habit that he struggled to kick for more than twenty years. In the ’90s, he became a born-again Christian and ordained minister, even starring in his own Bibleman videos.

In recent times the 48-year-old Aames who also starred in “Charles in Charge” has tried unsuccessfully to commit suicide last year after declaring bankruptcy. His car was also repossessed and his wife left him after 22 years. His home is now in foreclosure.

The event was actually set up by a production company that is filming a TV documentary about the down-on-his-luck celebrities life. In fact, Aames appeared to not have much part in the sale’s planning. “I have no idea what the prices are,” he was heard saying.
