Marlee Matlin’s Tell All Book: William Hurt Abusive

April 14, 2009

(ChattahBox)—Oscar wining actress, Marlee Matlin penned a revealing tell-all autobiography entitled, “I’ll Scream Later,” chronicling her battle with drug addiction, her sexual abuse by a babysitter as a child, and the alleged physical and emotional abuse suffered while in a relationship with actor William Hurt. Matlin, when just 21-years old, became the first deaf actress to win an Oscar for her role in the 1986 movie, “Children of a Lesser God.” She is now on a promotional tour to talk up her book.

Matlin was just 19-years old when she began her turbulent relationship with her “Children of a Lesser God” co-star, William Hurt, then significantly older than Matlin at 35. Matlin claims she loved Hurt, but that she was always afraid during their two-year live-in relationship and that she “had fresh bruises everyday” from his abuse.

Matlin says their relationship went downhill after she won an Oscar and Hurt didn’t. Hurt allegedly resented her award believing she didn’t deserve it.

Matlin blames her immaturity and drug addiction to pot and cocaine for allowing the relationship to go on, despite daily physical abuse from Hurt. She told Access Hollywood’s Nancy O’Dell that during a fight, Hurt threw her on the bed and ripped off her clothes while she screamed, “No, no, no. Please Bill, no.”

Matlin said Hurt had alcohol abuse problems and later attended Alcoholics Anonymous for treatment. She last saw Hurt three years ago, but they didn’t speak. Hurt has not commented on the allegations made by Matlin in her autobiography

Matlin’s book also dishes about her past relationships with actors Richard Dean Anderson, Rob Lowe and writer David E. Kelley.

Matlin, now 43-years old lives happily with her husband in LA who is a policeman. She has four children, Sarah, 13, Brandon, 8, Tyler, 6, and Isabelle, 5. She currently stars in Showtime’s “The L word,” and she received rave reviews for her appearance on “Dancing With the Stars,” last year, turning in a spectacular performance without being able to hear music.

Hurt, 59, is divorced and has four children from three different women. He currently stars on the popular FX series “Damages” with Glenn Close.
